One East London

One East London is a flagship ELBA programme building sustainable partnerships between businesses, the public sector and local communities to ensure that Stratford City is built as a sustainable community within East London.
Building Capacity

One of the key drivers of the One East London is building the capacity and strength of local charities and community organisations working in and around Stratford. Examples of how our member companies are supporting the leadership of this vital sector, include:
A new Finance Officer recently joined Streets of Growth, a youth leadership organisation. We matched her with a mentor from Citigroup who is supporting her professional development and studies towards accountancy qualifications.
Jeremy Heales, Head of Insurance and Assessment at the Financial Services Authority, was recently appointed as a trustee at Discover. Sally Goldsworthy, Director of Discover says “[his] broader perspective and outside view, as well as the quality of advice, is something that Discover could not afford to pay for.”
As part of their 2009 “Make a Difference Day” campaign, Barclays volunteers ran four capacity building workshops, attended by 14 different community organisations. The sessions focussed on fundraising strategy; writing a communications plan; business planning and financial management. One of the volunteers said “it’s rewarding to have the opportunity to share some best practice”.
