Employment

At ELBA, we encourage our corporate membership to invest their skills, resources, ideas and perspectives to create innovative solutions to local employment issues.
'The business case for recruiting locally is clear. As well as helping to tackle unemployment in East London, your business will benefit from lowered recruitment costs, higher retention rates, increased diversity, new business / increased market penetration, reduced travel to work time and good PR. It makes sense to be involved'.

Project Overview

Real Apprentice – Tower Hamlets
This project is our flagship training into work scheme pioneered with Mitie Business Services. We offer a twelve week work based programme that focuses on specific skills for particular industries as well as providing a comprehensive induction to the world of work. Candidates are given the opportunity to build skills, gain experience and confidence in a real work environment over twelve weeks, then to progress directly into permanent positions. This scheme allows both audiences (employer and candidate) a ‘try before you buy’ period which is of course beneficial for all.
We have received a number of awards recognising the scheme’s innovation and adaptability:
Big Tick Award 2007
National Training Award (London Region) 2006
Edge Employers Awards for London 2006
People in Partnership, PFM Award 2006
Nominated finalist for a Dragon Award 2006
ELBA Employer of the Year award 2005
Macquarie Real Apprentice Scheme - Hackney
This scheme is a unique private sector funded Real Apprentice employment programme offering series of employability and training into work schemes for 18 -24 year old Hackney residents through Macquarie and their family of companies. We have placed 53 trainees into ‘training into work’ programmes since delivery began and over 30 Macquarie business volunteers have participated in training and employability workshops.
Take Off Into Work – London City Airport / Newham Workplace
This is ELBA’s latest bespoke training into work scheme based on the Real Apprentice model for London City Airport and onsite employers. It is funded and delivered within Newham Workplace.
Incorporate
This scheme offers capacity building workshops for job-broker organisations based in the city fringe area.
Job-Link
Job-Link is a large scale 5 Host borough initiative created to link freshly skilled and enthusiastic jobseekers with active vacancies in the local labour market. The ambitious project originally worked alongside a host of stakeholders (local colleges, LSC, LDA, local job brokers/training providers) to provide a strong supply of Deloitte trained candidates to local employers. Job-link now concentrates on job brokerage and employment outcomes. Over 300 Jobseekers have been placed in work to date and over 1,000 supported towards achieving a job.
Poplar First
We have a Project Manager located in Poplar to provide capacity building and access to ELBA’s wider employment program for Poplar HARCA residents.
Reaching New Heights - Bob Network
ELBA delivers the Bob Network program which is designed to engage 16-24 year olds living in Tower Hamlets and create awareness about corporate and city-based careers, inspiring and enthusing them to be ambitious about their educational and career goals.
