Careers awareness days

With the demise of the Careers Service, we are calling for companies to get involved in raising awareness about careers for secondary school students. Whether it’s banking or bakery, engineering, law, consulting, HR, accountancy, retail, hospitality, marketing - young people need to understand career pathways and what it’s like to work in a particular area.

 

Support for Lister School

We are proud to announce the launch of the fourth Business Support Group. This award-winning model brings different companies around the table to support local schools in their pursuit of excellence. Whether it be supporting the school's management through leadership, website development, and business skills volunteering or offering direct support to students through careers workshops, mentoring or hosting workplace visits.

 

Creatures of Culture

Three of east London's most respected and dynamic arts organisations, all involved in the Cultural Legacy, have asked for your support to help them identify new board members. Emergency Exit Arts, East London Dance and Stratford Circus, are all looking for a mixture of skills from PR to marketing, finance to HR and legal skills and general business development.

Rep London

Rep London is a three year employability and volunteering programme which will leave a legacy of young people who will thrive in education and employment through the development of key skills, raised aspirations and the acquisition of community/business skills.

The young people taking part in Rep London are being prepared to be able to provide a range of practical services to visitors in London at One Movement sports events and at Games time as volunteers.

 

Just one hour a month

We have a great range of opportunities for volunteers who wish to provide mentoring support to service users who need that added bit of motivation and direction. You could provide extremely valuable support to:

1) East London university students and graduates who wish to enter the financial services sector;

2) Young people who are not in education, employment or training;

3) People who have recently started work and who need that extra support as they get used to their new working life.

 

IT support

Southern Housing is one of southern England’s largest housing associations, owning and managing 25,000 homes for more than 66,000 residents.

Southern Housing Group, has made a pledge to help its local communities become digitally included. They are looking for digital champions who can assist training on a one-to-one or group basis in community centres in London.

The Fire Station Community Nursery aims to provide good quality, affordable education and day-care facilities for children, aged from 13 weeks to 5 years, in a safe, stimulating and enjoyable environment, and to equip them for school life.

The Fire Station Community Nursery is approaching a challenging period, working together as a team to provide high quality childcare in the face of significant funding cuts.

 

Marketing Support

Wayside Community Centre concentrates its work in the London Borough of Hackney, aiming to support those who are elderly, disabled or who are suffering from poverty, sickness and distress. They are hoping to start engaging more with the young residents of Hackney and want to start making the most of the space that they have. Thus, they need support with their marketing strategy so that they can attract more clients and increase awareness of their services.

 

Where the Buzz Stops

ELBA is looking for volunteers to help populate the travel app, East London Buzzstops, supported by Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.This is an iPhone and Blackberry app that allows people to explore all that is on offer in east London in the run up to the Games. In the next few months it will be available on Android and iPad too.

If you party, eat, drink, play or shop, in any of the areas surrounding the Olympic Park, then you’ll find this volunteering opportunity fun.

   

Dance Space

A converted factory has become a home for experimentation in dance and performance. Situated in the heart of Tower Hamlets for over 30 years, this artist led space is responsive to the needs of individual practitioners and the community. They run high quality, community engagement projects as well as showcasing some of the most ground-breaking artists in London.

 

The Big Dig!

London’s community food-growing groups are being given offered free volunteer support for a day. The Big Dig is being organised by Capital Growth, the campaign to support 2012 new community food-growing spaces in London by the end of 2012. Taking place on Friday the 16th and Saturday, 17th March, Capital Growth is hoping to mobilise thousands of volunteers across London to help community food-growing spaces prepare for the new growing season.

 

Sports club need you

A grassroots sports club working with some of East London's most disaffected youths, needs some legal support to understand players’ legal contracts. They want to ensure fair contracts for all of their players approached by Pro Basketball League teams but have no experience or access to expertise in this area.
