Two young people from ELBA’s employability and skills project, Rep London, proudly represented themselves, east London and ELBA when they joined a BBC London TV debate about the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
ELBA’s Communications Manager, Corinne O’Sullivan, accompanied Jay and Naheeda down to the View Tube (right on the doorstep of the Olympic Park) for the interview, where they joined BBC London’s Olympic Correspondent Adrian Warner
and four other local people in a round table debate about the issues surrounding the Games - including how local people are affected and the potential legacy that can be secured for east London.
The debate coincided with the first Cabinet meeting of 2012 which was held by David Cameron in the Olympic Park. The debate was then broadcast in a primetime spot on BBC London’s Evening News later that day.
During the debate both spoke passionately about the skills they had gained from their involvement with the Rep London project and how they now felt like they had a stake in east London, their community and the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Jay and Naheeda were chosen for the interview because of their ability to speak confidently about issues that are affecting them and other young people. Both have also recently been selected to become London Ambassadors and will be joining 200 other young Rep Londoners in manning an information pod in Spitalfileds, east London, throughout the Games. They will be the face of east London, meeting, greeting and providing local information to the influx of visitors and tourists to the area.
Rep London is funded by the National Lottery, through the Olympic Lottery Distributor.
