Laying Down The Law

Laying down the law

ELBA and Spitalfields Together visited London Metropolitan University’s law department last week, to raise awareness of the next series of the Legal Club to all the 1st and 2nd year Law undergraduates. It was the first time that ELBA spoke directly to the whole year about the opportunity instead of advertising through posters and newsletters, which has had limited success in the past.

Nick Rosekilly, project manager for Spitalfields Together, spoke about the need for the Legal Club and the skills and networking opportunities that become available through the programme.

The Magic Circle law firm Allen & Overy is keen to influence and enhance the skills of their local university students and are prepared to take up to 25 undergraduate law students onto the five week programme. They will be covering the following skills based learning:

Communication Skills

Handling of Information

Handling Workload

Analytical Skills

Future Focus

These skills will be enhanced through the opportunity to network directly with law professionals. The legal club, which is due to start in November 2010, has already had 58 law students sign up within an hour of the presentation demonstrating that there is a real desire to improve their practical working skills and to gain an extra advantage over other law graduates.
