Cycling into success
Bikeworks, the Community Interest Company based in Victoria Park were presented with the “Best New Social Enterprise in England” award at Number 10 recently and named as “Best New Social Enterprise in UK” in the 2009 Social Enterprise Awards.
Operating a community cycling hub, Bikeworks delivers a number of cycling based programmes which include employment and training opportunities for the long-term unemployed, cycling for health, all ability cycling for disabled people, bike recycling and sales and repairs to the public.
The social enterprise has been supported by the Beyond the Barn Programme at the Bromley by Bow Centre and in its initial stages, ELBA arranged for David Trillo, Finance Director of Bowood Partners to mentor Jim at Bikeworks under the Lloyd’s Community Programme.
Congratulations to Directors Dave and Jim for their sustainable model of using bikes and cycling to address some of the environmental, social and economic challenges in London.
