Money, Money, Money
Continuing their promotion of financial literacy in the community, a team of 12 Barclays’ volunteers spent a morning with Years 2 and 3 at Carpenters Primary School in Stratford. The workshops focused on the different ways that money can be spent, how to save and the concepts of profit and loss.
The volunteers were very impressed with the children’s maths skills and were amused by their choice of how to spend £100; the favourite suggestion was to buy Cheryl Cole.
We will continue to roll out these popular Money Skills sessions to schools and groups in the One East London area.

Step in the right direction
The Future Directions project, which Morgan Stanley volunteers ran for young people from Fight for Peace, culminated in all 10 young participants giving excellent presentations to Morgan Stanley employees in their auditorium in Canary Wharf recently.
Fight for Peace is a community based project which started off working in the favelas in Brazil and now works in North Woolwich. It aims to overcome division and violence and promote the potential of young people through boxing, martial arts, education programmes and youth support services.

Cooking up a storm - Bangla style!
Executive Chef at CMS Cameron McKenna, Paul Farmer, visited our community partners Star Anise for their Bengali New Year celebrations. He was blown away by the authentic Bangladeshi dishes and is hoping to bring their skills and recipes into CMS over the coming months.
As part of ELBA’s Recipe for Success project, Paul is working with Star Anise to put together a healthy cooking demonstration at St Paul’s Way School in Tower Hamlets which will give local parents some winning tips and recipes to get them and their families eating good healthy food.
