Individual Volunteer

The judges found it incredibly difficult to select just one individual’s outstanding contribution, and so awarded two joint winners in this category: Taran Wilkhu from Nomura for his work with the Josh Lewsey Rugby Academy and Laura Louise White from UBS for her involvement in Shoreditch Games.

Volunteer Team

ELBA encourages team volunteering opportunities that go beyond traditional team challenges, by focusing on skills sharing and working alongside community partners. As the winning team in this category, Hammerson fit the bill perfectly for their work with The Map Squad.

Partnership Award

We love it when volunteering engagement moves to the next level and sustainable partnerships, building real capacity, develop. We are delighted that the Rokeby Business Support Group is the winner in this category.  ELBA brought together a group of businesses to support Rokeby Secondary School by meeting regularly with the head teacher and helping her tackle some of her key challenges.

Employment Champion

One of the key issues for addressing disadvantage in East London is the issue of employment. At ELBA we know that to really make a difference, we need to encourage our member companies and their subcontractors to give jobs to local people. We are delighted to recognise the work of London City Airport in this category.

Legacy Champion

CREATE is a large-scale, multi-artform festival reflecting the diversity and international reach of the five boroughs hosting the 2012 Olympic Games. We are pleased that this year’s winner is Emma Baudey from Bank of America.  Emma is one of those rare breeds who manages to suspend their disbelief, to throw caution to the wind and to back projects which most would find frivolous or obscure.

Lifetime Supporter

There was one person we couldn’t say goodbye to without showing our gratitude. Graham Mallet of Thames Water has been a committed supporter of ELBA for many years.

Outstanding Achievement

In the course of each year, we come across thousands of incredibly talented, generous employee volunteers who, with the support of their businesses, are committed to making a positive difference to the lives of those living in East London. Laura-Louise White is one such volunteer and we’re delighted to award Laura-Louise Outstanding Achievement Award 2009.
